LPSO Arrests Hineston Man on Drug Charges Following Traffic Stop

A traffic stop on Saturday night, January 4, led to the arrest of a 29-year-old Hineston man on multiple drug and traffic-related charges.

A LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) deputy initiated the stop on a green Ford Ranger on Hwy 84 in Jena after observing an equipment violation. The driver, identified as Tyler Gillespie, informed the deputy that his driver’s license was suspended and that the vehicle lacked insurance.

During the stop, an LPSO K-9 unit, along with K-9 “Ralf,” responded to assist. The dog’s positive alert led deputies to search the vehicle, where they discovered a modified pill bottle containing a glass pipe and a black rubber hose, both commonly used for smoking narcotics. Inside the bottle, a substance believed to be methamphetamine was found. Gillespie also disclosed to deputies the presence of several used syringes under his cup holder, which were subsequently located.

Gillespie was arrested and taken to the LaSalle Parish Jail. He was booked on charges including possession of CDS II methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper equipment, driving under suspension, and operating a vehicle without insurance.
