LaSalle Parish teams hit the road in Week 4

Football fans got to see Jena and LaSalle win at home in Week 3, but if they want to see Week 4 action, they’ll have to hit the road.

Jena (3-0) is looking to continue its perfect start to the season when they head to Winnfield (1-2).

The Giants dismantled St. Frederick in 42-7 fashion.

LaSalle (2-1) is playing a rare Saturday game when they visit Block (0-3) after the Tigers scooted by Merryville, 30-22.

LASALLE
The playoffs may be a long ways off, but for a Tigers program looking for its first playoff bid since 2022, a 3-1 start would bode well to snapping the postseason streak.

LaSalle started 3-1 in 2023 as well before hitting the skids in District 3-1A play.

But this Tigers team feels a little different.

Do-it-all Tuff Street had himself a game against Merryville, rushing for 165 yards and three scores, completing three passes, forcing two turnovers on defense, and returning two kicks for 55 yards.

Street spearheaded a LaSalle rushing attack that gained 277 yards with Wyatt King (49 yards, 1 TD) and Jesse Stowe (64 yards) providing changes of pace.

It’s the second one-score win for LaSalle, who edged Lakeside 32-29 in Week 2.

Merryville dropped to 0-3 after its second one-score loss.

Street is nearing 400 rushing yards through three games.

Block has struggled this season, although the Bears got on the scoreboard in a 42-20 loss to Vidalia after being shut out by Bunkie and Ferriday in a difficult slate to start the season.

LaSalle won a shootout in 2024, 50-30, over Block.

JENA
The Giants no doubt had a one-point loss to St. Frederick on their minds from 2024, a loss that snapped an 18-game regular season winning streak dating back to 2022.

Jena increased its regular-season streak to five with its shellacking of St. Frederick on Friday.

Jena scored the first 42 points by halftime and coasted in the second half.

Quarterback Deuce McPherson threw two touchdown passes while Sedrick Wilson and Daniel Hatcher each accounted for rushing touchdowns.

The Giants defense got in on the fun with a 75-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Jena will catch a Winnfield team that found an offensive spark in a 57-32 loss to West Ouachita.

The Tigers ripped off long runs as they battled the Chiefs for the better part of three quarters.

But Jena could certainly pile up the points in a hurry against Winnfield similar to a 46-0 rout from this
past season.

Winnfield is under new leadership in head coach Byron Keller, who took Red River to its first district title since 2005 this past season.
