Area farmers, gardeners, and agriculture enthusiasts will have an opportunity to learn more about vegetable production later this month as the LSU AgCenter hosts a Tomato Demonstration Field Tour in LaSalle Parish.
The event is scheduled for June 30, 2026, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Posey’s Produce, located at 253 Rockbottom Road in Trout.
According to organizers, the field tour will provide participants with a firsthand look at several important aspects of vegetable production and management. Attendees will have the opportunity to observe and learn about vegetable fertigation, irrigation practices, trellising techniques, and tomato production methods currently being utilized at the farm.
In addition to the educational demonstrations, participants will also have the chance to take part in tomato tasting activities, allowing them to sample and compare different varieties.
The event is part of a collaborative effort between the LSU AgCenter and local agricultural producers to provide educational opportunities and practical information for growers throughout the region.
Organizers say the demonstration is designed to benefit both commercial producers and home gardeners interested in improving crop production techniques and learning about the latest agricultural practices.
Because attendance numbers are needed for planning purposes, individuals interested in participating are asked to RSVP to the LaSalle Parish Extension Office by June 22.
The field tour offers a unique opportunity for residents of LaSalle and Grant parishes to see successful vegetable production practices in action while networking with fellow growers and agriculture professionals.
