Jena High School Band leaders complete prestigious all-south leadership camp

Two student leaders from the Jena High School Band have returned home with valuable leadership experience after successfully completing the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) All-South Drum Major and Leadership Camp.

Band officials recently congratulated Nate, who serves as the band’s Drum Major, and Sophie, the band’s Field Commander, for their participation in the respected summer leadership program.

The USM All-South Drum Major and Leadership Camp is designed to develop leadership, communication, conducting, and performance skills among student leaders from high school band programs across the region. Participants receive specialized instruction while building confidence and learning techniques they can bring back to their school organizations.

As Drum Major and Field Commander, Nate and Sophie play critical roles in leading the Jena High School Band both on and off the field. Their responsibilities include assisting with rehearsals, maintaining discipline and morale, and serving as role models for fellow band members.

School and band supporters praised the students for their dedication to personal growth and their commitment to strengthening the band’s leadership team ahead of the upcoming marching season.

The completion of the leadership camp provides both students with new skills and experiences that will help guide the Jena High School Band throughout the year.

Band officials expressed pride in the accomplishments of both student leaders and their willingness to represent Jena High School while pursuing opportunities to enhance their leadership abilities.

As preparations continue for the upcoming school year, the knowledge and experience gained at the All-South Camp are expected to benefit not only Nate and Sophie, but the entire Jena High School Band program.

Congratulations to Nate and Sophie on this outstanding achievement and their commitment to excellence in leadership and music education.
