The 4-H Shooting Sports program is seeking volunteers interested in becoming Level 1 instructors to help mentor youth and provide additional opportunities for young participants.

According to information provided in an upcoming training announcement, volunteers can become certified in several shooting sports disciplines, including rifle, archery, shotgun and pistol. The program is designed to help youth build skills, confidence and leadership through 4-H Shooting Sports.

Three Level 1 instructor training sessions are scheduled for October:

Oct. 17 – DeSoto Parish: Training will cover Air Rifle/BB/.22 Rifle, Archery, Hunting Skills and Shotgun. The registration deadline is Oct. 9.

Oct. 24 – Ouachita Parish: Training will cover Air Rifle/BB/.22 Rifle, Archery, Coordinator and Shotgun. The registration deadline is Oct. 16.

Oct. 31 – Acadia Parish: Training will cover Air Pistol/.22 Pistol, Air Rifle/BB/.22 Rifle, Archery and Shotgun. The registration deadline is Oct. 23.

All training dates are scheduled for 2026, and participants must be active in 4-H Online.

Organizers emphasized that additional instructors can create more opportunities for youth to participate in the program while giving volunteers a chance to mentor young people and make a lasting impact.

Those interested in becoming an instructor are encouraged to visit with a current 4-H Shooting Sports coach or contact their local 4-H office for additional information.
