LaSalle Parish Schools has been recognized as one of Louisiana’s top-performing school systems for early literacy, ranking No. 8 statewide based on results from the 2025-2026 K-3 Literacy Screener.
According to the Louisiana Department of Education, 74% of LaSalle Parish students in kindergarten through third grade scored on or above level, placing the district among the 10 highest-achieving school systems in the state.
The recognition comes as Louisiana continues to make gains in reading. The Louisiana Department of Education reported that Louisiana ranks No. 1 among states in reading growth, noting that the work taking place in high-performing school systems is helping drive that progress.
LaSalle Parish Schools joined several districts from across Louisiana in earning a place among the state’s top 10. DeSoto Parish Schools led the rankings with 80.4% of students scoring on or above level, followed by West Feliciana Parish Schools at 80.2% and Ascension Public Schools at 78.7%.
For LaSalle Parish, the 74% proficiency rate and No. 8 statewide ranking highlight the work being done in local elementary classrooms to strengthen reading skills during the critical early years of a student’s education.
The Louisiana Department of Education recognized LaSalle Parish Schools and the other top-performing districts during the August meeting of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).
The statewide recognition gives LaSalle Parish another reason to celebrate its students and educators as local schools continue working to build strong literacy foundations and prepare young learners for future academic success.
