Local veterans to host Memorial Day 5K supporting VFW Post 5002

A community-wide Memorial Day event is set to bring residents together in support of local veterans as VFW Post 5002 prepares to host a 5K run on Monday, May 25, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The event, organized to benefit local veterans and programs connected to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5002, encourages community members of all ages to participate in the patriotic fundraiser. Organizers say the race is designed not only to promote fitness and fellowship, but also to honor the sacrifices made by military veterans and prisoners of war.

Participants can register for the event for $40, which includes a commemorative event shirt. Shirts will also be available separately for $25. The featured shirt design includes a patriotic VFW logo on the front and a POW/MIA tribute graphic on the back with the message, “You Are Not Forgotten.”

Registration and payment can be completed through the event’s QR code. Organizers ask participants to include their name, shirt size, and phone number when registering.

The event is sponsored by Universal Plant Services, whose support is helping make the fundraiser possible.
Community members interested in participating or learning more about the event can contact organizers at (318) 267-4025.

VFW Post 5002 leaders say they hope the event will serve as both a celebration of community spirit and a meaningful reminder of the continued support veterans need long after their service ends.
