LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office announces free “Camp 911” youth summer program

The LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office is preparing to launch its first-ever Camp 911 this summer, offering local students a unique opportunity to learn about careers in public safety while building leadership skills and community connections.

Sheriff Lane Windham announced the free youth camp will take place June 16-18, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. each day at the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office located at 1050 Courthouse Street in Jena.

The program is open to students entering 6th through 12th grades and is designed to introduce youth to careers in law enforcement, emergency medical services, and fire emergency services.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Camp 911’s mission is to connect young people with first responder professions while fostering the next generation of community leaders. Each day of the camp will feature a different first responder theme, including hands-on activities, conversations with professionals, and educational field trips.

Students attending the camp will also receive a free Camp 911 t-shirt.

Sheriff Windham said the program is the first of several free youth camps planned for the future as the department continues expanding outreach efforts for local youth.

Enrollment is limited to the first 20 students who submit completed registration forms by June 9, 2026. Parents can obtain registration forms by visiting the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office in Jena or the LPSO Substation in Olla. Forms are also available through the department’s Facebook page.

Completed registration forms must be returned to Deputy Jenny Parker by the deadline in order for students to participate and receive their camp shirt.

For additional information, parents may contact Deputy Jenny Parker at 318-992-7364 or by email at jparker@lasalleso.com.
