LaSalle General Hospital is helping introduce area students to career opportunities in healthcare through a partnership with the Central Louisiana Area Health Education Center’s MedStart Program.

Julius Lovasz, LPN, with LaSalle General Hospital Employer Solutions, and Susan Doughty, RN, LFMC supervisor, recently visited three eighth-grade classes, including one at Block High School and two at Harrisonburg High School.

During the visits, students learned about careers in nursing, emergency medical services and other areas of the healthcare industry.

The presentations also gave students an opportunity to participate in hands-on demonstrations of skills commonly used by healthcare professionals.

Activities included learning how to wrap and splint a wrist, checking circulation and testing for color blindness. Hospital representatives said students remained engaged throughout the presentations and asked questions as they explored the different career possibilities available within the healthcare field.

LaSalle General Hospital said its involvement in the MedStart Program is part of an effort to invest in young people while helping strengthen communities by exposing students to potential career paths.

The hospital thanked CLAHEC, Block High School and Harrisonburg High School for their partnership in providing the educational opportunity and said it was honored to help inspire students as they begin considering their futures.
